What types of calls are supported by BAS-IP devices?
The basic and preferable way is calls via BAS-IP internal protocol or in other words multicast. For its functioning, you must correctly set devices logical addresses. The logical address consists of Building No. (from 0001 to 9999), Unit No. (from 00 to 99), Floor No. (from 00 to 98), and Apartment No. (from 01 to 99). These values can vary for different devices. For example, for a monitor, all 4 parameters are required, while for multi-apartment panels only Building and Unit values must be entered.
To connect devices, they must have the same values for logical addresses. For example, the entrance panel is installed at the 1st unit of building No. 1 and has logical address 0001-01. To call the monitor in apartment No 1, located on the 1st floor of the 1st unit, the monitor logical address (number) 0001-01-00-01 will be called. In this logical address, 0001 is a Building No., 01 stands for Unit No., 00 is a Floor No., and 01 is a number of apartment. Thus, the same logical address as for the panel must be set in the monitor settings: building - 1, unit - 1, floor - 0, apartment - 1.
Static IP is not important in this case. When initiating a call the panel always starts searching the device with the same logical address within the network. So, the Internet connection is not required for calls via internal protocol.
The other way to make calls is by creating forward rules. Be aware that forward rules activate only if a multicast (internal protocol) call is not successful, i.e. panel does not find the device with the same logical address. So, to make this option work, firstly, you set for the monitor different from the panel logical address. Secondly, you must create necessary forward rules. It is possible to use 2 ways for forwarding:
via Peer-to-Peer (P2P) by specifying the monitor local IP address;
via SIP by setting the virtual number of the monitor.
For Peer-to-Peer calls you do not need any additional settings, just set monitor IP addresses in the correct format. Static IP addresses are better to use. As, if the DHCP option is enabled, the server will change the device IP and you need to change the forward rule manually. For this option, an Internet connection is not required.
Format for calls via P2P:
Two formats for numbers are available:
sip:1@192.168.1.65, where 1 is the desired number to be displayed for the callee, 192.168.1.65 is the IP address of the callee SIP client (if you use a softphone, the IP address of a device where the softphone is installed);
sip:192.168.1.65, where 192.168.1.65 is the IP address of the callee SIP client (if you use a softphone, the IP address of a device where the softphone is installed).
If you are using SIP, then Static IP is not needed, but you are required the Interner. Also, you must enable and configure SIP settings for all devices included in forwarding queues. This way is appropriate if you want to include mobile apps in the queue because P2P does not allow you this.
Format for calls via SIP:
sip:5588@us.sip.bas-ip.com, where 5588 is the callee SIP number, us.sip.bas-ip.com is the address of the SIP server, which can be either the IP address or domain name.
For the forwarding correct function, the SIP numbers in one queue must be registered on the same SIP server. For example, forwarding will work for your SIP numbers registered on the us.sip.bas-ip.com server.
