Recommendations for choosing network equipment and its characteristics

When choosing network equipment for building a network of intercoms, you should pay attention to the following parameters and characteristics that this equipment must have to work correctly:

  • To build a network, you need to use switches 2 or 3 levels on the floors and a third-level router with support for DHCP, ICMP, QoS, and VLAN for proper operation and the possibility of dividing the network into logical segments such as intercom VLAN, VLAN of IP cameras and VLAN of the rest of the network.

  • When selecting a network topology, it is also recommended to use a mixed topology for greater system resiliency.

  • When laying cable products, a twisted pair of cables of a class not lower than CAT5e is recommended.

  • Network bandwidth should be based on at least 2 Mbps per device.

  • Switching tables should have a stock of addresses based on the number of connected equipment + 30% of the stock. This is necessary so that the information passing through the network reaches customers without delay and helps to expand the network a little if necessary.

  • Don`t use the 255.255.255.254 (/31) mask as this subnet is very limited - you will only have access to two IP addresses, one of which is broadcast, and the other is the address of the network itself. In addition, our devices do not support 255.255.255.254 according to the standard.
