How to configure license plate recognition?

License plates can be used as identifiers to open the barrier. For this identifier to work, you need an additional IP camera with an ALPR option for plate scanning. BAS-IP Link server is only compatible with Axis, Hikvision, or AxxonOne cameras. Below you will find detailed instructions on configuring each camera to interact with the server and using license plates as IDs.

Axis camera configuration

  1. In the Licenses tab, ensure that you have license plate recognition in your license and this option is enabled for the server.

  1. Ensure that you have all the required elements for the plate scanning. For this identifier to work, you need a BAS-IP panel and an installed Axis camera with the ALPR option. Also, you are required an Axis license that gives you an Axis License Plate Verifier. Detailed information about software and its installation can be found on the Axis website.

  2. In the AXIS License Plate Verifier, select the HTTP Post protocol.

  3. Enter the server URL that consists of the panel username and password, panel IP address, and API endpoint, where the camera will send the recognized number. For example, admin:123456@192.168.1.178/api/v1/access/plate/check, where the username is admin, the user password is 123456, and 192.168.1.178 is panel IP.

  4. Save AXIS License Plate Verifier settings.

  5. Open panel web interface. By default, the username is admin and the password is 123456.

  1. Go to the Devices tab of the Device management section to add the panel to the Link.

  2. Click the plus icon in the left low corner.

  3. Enter the device name.

  4. Select the panel type and its model.

  5. Indicate the device Serial number (check the Dashboard tab of the panel web interface or device box).

  6. Select a group/subgroup where the device is functioning.

  7. If necessary, set location geodata for panels. This data is required for the Link app, when a visitor with a pass (added to Apple Wallet) approaches the available panel (with location), the pass will be automatically shown.

  8. Add a description, if necessary.

  9. Enter network settings for server and panel interaction:

    • select the appropriate communication protocol: HTTP or MQTT (is recommended to use);

    • enter the device IP address and port (for HTTP only);

    • enter login and password that are used to enter the device web interface;

    • indicate server interaction password (is created in the Management system section (Network tab) of the device web interface).

Also, the same network settings as for the server must be entered in the device web interface. The management system must be enabled for the device:

  1. Log in to the device web interface. By default, the username is admin, and the password is 123456.

  2. Go to the Network tab > Management system section.

  3. Select the necessary protocol: HTTP or MQTT (is recommended to use) in the Mode field.

  4. Enter all required data.

  5. Submit settings.

14. Click the Save button in the left low corner when all required data will be entered.

  1. Add license plate identifier as described here.

As a result, everything is ready for the Link interaction with license plates.

Hikvision camera configuration

  1. In the Licenses tab, ensure that you have an integration with the Hikvision camera in your license and this option is enabled for the server.

  2. Go to the Devices tab of the Device management section.

  3. Click the plus icon in the left low corner.

  4. Enter the device name.

  5. Select the IP camera type.

  6. Select the Hikvision camera with the ANPR model.

  7. Enter any number for the Serial number field.

  8. Select a group/subgroup where the device is functioning.

  9. Add a description, if necessary.

  10. Enter network settings for server and camera interaction:

  • enter the camera IP address and port

  • enter login and password to the camera

Be aware that the camera must be within the same network as the server or available for interaction via the Internet.

  1. In the Additional Settings, select the ID of the alarm output relay on the camera that must be activated when the license plate is recognized.

  2. Also, set a timeout for this relay activity.
